Attendance & Absence
It is important that your child attends school for the whole of each term as absence during term time could be detrimental to your child's progress.
If your child is absent from school for any unavoidable reason such as sickness, we ask parents/carers to contact the School Office before 9:30 am, this may be done by phone, email, or in person. Parents are asked to contact the school office every other day if their child is absent for more than one day.
If a reason is not provided for your child’s absence they will be noted in the register as absent from school without authorisation, and this will therefore effect their attendance.
If your child has an appointment during the school day or will arrive late due to an early morning appointment, please notify the class teacher or the School Office in advance indicating the reason and if a school meal is required. Pupils will be signed out at the School Office and signed back in again upon their return. Children will not be permitted to leave school premises on their own during the school day.
Term Time Leave of Absence
School education lays the vital foundations of a child's life, with research clearly demonstrating the link between regular attendance, educational progress and attainment.
On 1st September 2013, the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 came into force, changing the rules about term-time holidays.
The amendments remove references to family holidays and extended leave as well as the statutory threshold of 10 school days.
The amendments specify that headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless they consider there to be 'exceptional circumstances' for doing so.
If you need to ask for time out of school due to exceptional circumstances, you will ned to complete a Term Time Leave of Absence form.
Your request will be considered and if appropriate authorised absence will be granted, if your request is not authorised you shall be informed of the reasons why.
Please note that all unauthorised absences are monitored.
Headteachers are no longer able to authorise leave of absence for family holidays taken during term time.
